Vetlanda 51-39 Piraterna Report

Vetlanda 2

A stunning 14 point haul from Slovakian reserve Martin Vaculik paved the way for high-flying Vetlanda to score an excellent 51-39 victory over a defending Elitserien champions Piraterna.

In-form Thomas H Jonasson and Grand Prix star Emil Sayfutdinov got Vetlanda off to the perfect start with a 5-1, before shock wins for flying Dane Leon Madsen and Martin Vaculik over Grand Prix stars Greg Hancock and Chris Holder respectively gave the hosts further heat advantages in heats 3 and 4 to double their lead to 8.

After a pair of level races, Piraterna did pull four points back thanks to a Hancock and Przemyslaw Pawlicki maximum, but that was instantly cancelled out by Madsen and Holder in heat 8 before Vaculik and Crump extended the Vetlanda lead to 12 with a second consecutive 5-1 in the very next race.

Vaculik was finally beaten in heat 10, with Przemyslaw Pawlicki paving the way for a Piraterna 4-2 in the process, before the visitors pulled back within six thanks to Janowski and Hancock scoring a heat 12 maximum.

However, the home side came on strong in the closing stages to halt that Piraterna charge, as a heat 13 4-2 was followed up by a fatal Sayfutdinov and Crump 5-1 in the penultimate race which wrapped up the win and the 12 point deficit which remained after a final heat 3-3 left the final scoreline as Vetlanda 51-39 Piraterna.

The Vetlanda win was powered by the awesome Martin Vaculik (14) but Polish star Jaroslaw Hampel (10+1) was also excellent. Leon Madsen (9+2) continued his flying form, as did Thomas H Jonasson (8), and although Emil Sayfutdinov (5+1) and Jason Crump (5+2) were a little below par, they contributed vital points which resulted in a comfortable Vetlanda win.Meanwhile, Piraterna had Greg Hancock (11+1) performing very well along with Kings Lynn man Maciej Janowski (9) and Przemyslaw Pawlicki (7+1). However, too many team members failed to turn up, with Linus Sundstrom (3+1), Chris Holder (5) and Piotr Pawlicki (0)
failing to score the points which they were expected to, causing their relatively heavy defeat.
