Kings Lynn and Swindon Draw Again!
Kings Lynn and Swindon met for the second time in a week and again could not be separated, as they drew 45-45 at the Norfolk Arena.
Dane Niels Kristian Iversen got the Stars off to a good start by rounding Jason Doyle to give the hosts a 4-2, before wins for Lasse Bjerre, Maciej Janowski and Mateusz Szczepaniak resulted in a trio of 3-3s.
An excellent cutback from Janowski saw Kings Lynn take advantage of a Hans Andersen exclusion to double their lead with another 4-2 in heat 5, although Swindon did cancel that out in heat 7 with Troy Batchelor and Simon Stead linking up for a heat advantage.
Flying reserve Szczepaniak excellently held off the quick Lasse Bjerre in a level heat 8, before Janowski lifted and crashed heavily in heat 9, before getting up and taking 2nd behind Peter Kildemand in a level rerun.
The home side then scored a superb 5-1 in the 10th race of the night, with Iversen and Szczepaniak racing clear of Stead and Batchelor to extend the Stars lead to 6 points.
When heat 12 arrived, Janowski had an even bigger crash, as he lost control and slammed into the fence hard down the back straight. Remarkably, he again walked away, but he was excluded from the rerun. In that rerun, Swindon men Bjerre and Stead raced clear for a massive 5-1, catapulting the Robins right back into contention.
Iversen and Batchelor won heats 12 and 13, but neither side was able to score that vital heat advantage, before Kildemand held off Iversen with great composure to win heat 15, whilst Batchelor held on to third place for a 4-2 which saw the meeting end as a 45-45 draw.
For Kings Lynn it was a decent performance against a strong Swindon side, but they would have been desperate to win given their home advantage. Niels Kristian Iversen (13) was exceptional as usual, whilst Mateusz Szczepaniak (14+2) stepped up to the plate to put in a sterling performance. However, too many of the main body under performed, and with skipper Mads Korneliussen (2+1) and Daniel Nermark (0) struggling, it was always going to be tough. Maciej Janowski (8), Kevin Wolbert (4+1) and Ulrich Ostergaard (4+1) did add solid points, and as a result the Stars did have enough to take a draw.
On the other hand, it was a very good away draw for Swindon, with Lasse Bjerre (11) putting in a surprise display to top score from the reserve berth. Unlike Kings Lynn, Swindon did not really have big scorer, but they had their whole team contributing well. Troy Batchelor (9) and Peter Kildemand (9+1) both scored well, as did Jason Doyle (6+2) and Simon Stead (5+2). Hans Andersen (4) did have an off night at number one, but with the rest of the main body scoring well, Swindon still managed to take a draw.
