Poole Outclass Wolves

Kasprzak1 - W

Poole Pirates class shone through as they maintained their 100% home record with a 52-38 victory over struggling Wolverhampton Wolves.

The home side looked set for an opening heat 5-1, until Darcy Ward lost control on lap 4, crossing the white line and going onto the grass , resulting in an exclusion, meaning the race ended level despite a Ricky Kling win.

A lightning gate from Matej Kus saw him win the reserve race in another 3-3, before excellent win for Dennis Andersson and Krzysztof Kasprzak saw Poole finally take a 4 point lead with 4-2s in heats 3 and 4.

Chris Holder and Andersson then joined forces for their second heat advantage, this time racing clear for a 5-1 in heat 5 to double the Pirates advantage to 8 points.

In heat 7, Wolves moved back within 6 points through a Robert Miskowiak led 4-2,  but Poole bounced straight back with a 4-2 of their own after a second victory for Kling.

Drama ensued in heat 9, with Grand Prix star Holder picking up some dirt coming off turn 4 and being thrown over the handle bars of his bike. After lengthy treatment, Holder was withdrawn from the meeting with a rib injury.

In the rerun, the visitors struck a 4-2 through a Tai Woffinden win, Ward won heat 10 in emphatic style to restore the 8 point Pirates advantage.

Heats 11 and 12 resulted in 3-3s after wins for Miskowiak and the impressive Kasprzak respectively, before Woffinden fell during a tight first turn of heat 13. After popping his shoulder out, it was put back into place and after a short break he incredibly took his place in the rerun. However, Poole still struck a vital 5-1, as Kasprzak blasted between the Wolves men on lap 1 to join Ward at the front.

It was then up to Andersson and Ludvig Lindgren to link up for a 4-2 in the penultimate heat to wrap up victory for the home side in front of a bumper Wimborne Road crowd.

For Poole, it was an excellent, professional performance – especially given Chris Holder (4) was forced to withdraw early on. Krzysztof Kasprzak (14) performed exceptionally to lead the Pirates, whilst Dennis Andersson (10) also earned a heat 15 appearance with a good display. Darcy Ward (8+1) recovered from his heat 1 mistake to bag 3 race wins. Ricky Kling (7) also stepped up to the plate in the number 2 jacket, whilst reserves Kyle Howarth (4+2) and Ludvig Lindgren (5) contributed solid points to ensure Poole took maximum Elite League points.

On the other hand, it was a battling performance from Wolves, although they did disappointingly fade in the closing stages. Robert Miskowiak (12) and Ty Proctor (7+2) both performed very well, whilst Matej Kus (5+1) did his job at reserve. Number one Fredrik Lindgren (3+1) had a very off night though, and the fact that neither he nor Tai Woffinden (8)  managed to make double figures meant that Wolves never really had a realistic chance.
