Vastervik 48-42 Vargarna Report
Brit Chris Harris put in an excellent performance as he led Vastervik to a superb 48-42 victory over Vargarna in the Eliteserien.
After the two sides traded 4-2s in the opening two heats, Dane Nicki Pedersen got the better of fellow GP man Harris to move Vargarna ahead with a 4-2, before namesake Bjarne and Danil Iwanow extended the visitors’ lead to 6 with a heat 4 maximum.
Tomasz Jedrzejak and Davey Watt instantly hit back, giving Vastervik a 5-1 of their own, but Vargarna restored their 6 point advantage two heats later thanks to Swindon man Peter Kildemand and Danish compatriot Nicki Pedersen in heat 7.
However, heats 8 and 9 saw Vastervik strike two massive 5-1s to move into a 2 point lead, with first British duo Harris and Danny King racing clear before Lakeside pairing Watt and Kim Nilsson repeated the trick.
Wins for Croatian hotshot Jurica Pavlic and Davey Watt resulted in 3-3s in the next two heats, before a 5-1 from GP pairing Nicki Pedersen and Peter Ljung saw the pendulum swing in Vargarna’s favour once more with the two point deficit reversed in their favour.
Vastervik kept their nerve though, with Harris and Jedrzejak cancelling that maximum out with a triumph of their own in heat 13, before the same pairing wrapped up proceeding by racing clear of Nicki and Bjarne Pedersen in the final race of the night to secure a 48-42 home win.
For Vastervik, it was a superb result, led by a trio of double figure scorers. Brit Chris Harris (12+1) continued his upturn in Swedish form with a great performance, whilst Tomasz Jedrzejak (12+1) and Lakeside star Davey Watt(10+2) were also superb. Although non of the remaining riders stood out, they did add useful points. Juries Pavlic (7) came good late on when it mattered to support the big scoring trio very well, whilst Danny King (3+2) and Peter Ljung (4) did pick up some vital points which aided the Vastervik effort despite not performing as well as they would expect.
On the other hand, Vargarna will be disappointed to have tailed off and just lost out in what was a very tight meeting. Nicki Pedersen (11+1) was very strong, as he has been all season, whilst reserve Danil Iwanow (8+2) proved to be a real trump card. The rest of the team did under perform though, with Peter Karlsson (6), Bjarne Pedersen (5+2), Peter Kildemand (5) and Kim Nilsson (3+1) all falling way short of their expected performance levels. Although it was a solid team display in which every rider scored at least 3 points, Vargarna just needed one of those middle order men to step up and score double figures, but without that they just missed out on what would have been an excellent away victory.
