Wolves Withhold Belle Vue Fightback
The Wolverhampton Wolves came on strong in the closing stages after a superb Belle Vue Aces fightback to eventually take a 51-42 victory at Monmore Green to snatch all 3 points.
The meeting opened in nervy fashion, as Belle Vue man Craig Cook blasted through the tapes. A cracking opening race then followed in the rerun, as Freddie Lindgren charged inside opposition number one Rory Schlein coming off turn 4 on lap 2 to give Wolves a 4-2 thanks to Pontus Aspgren taking third.
Reserve pairing Ricky Wells and guest Adam Roynon then raced clear from the gate for a comfortable heat 2 maximum to stretch the Wolves advantage to 6 early on.
Belle Vue swiftly began a fightback, with Artur Mroczka holding on under pressure fromTy Proctor to instigate an Aces 4-2.
Reserves Roynon and Wells again combined for a 5-1 next time out though, with in-form Wells rounding Aces pair Gafurov and Lemon within the space of a lap to join Roynon at the front.
Another mistake then cost Belle Bue dear, as Alea Dryml blasted through the tapes in heat 5, before Robert Miskowiak held off Mroczka for a 4-2 thanks to Proctor crossing the line in third.
A nasty crash for Pontus Aspgren at the back saw heat 6 declared level with Freddie Lindgren at the front at the time of the fall, preserving that 10 point Wolves lead.
Yet the visiting Aces struck a massive 8-1 in the 7th race of the night, as Craig Cook race round to join Artur Mroczka, wearing the black and white helmet, at the front to move Belle Vue back within 3.
Yet another win for the fast Mroczka in heat 8 kept the Manchester outfit in touch with a 3-3, before another level race in heat 9 after Miskowiak overcame the exclusion of partner Proctor after a fall to take the chequered flag.
Soon, Belle Vue had a shock lead, as Cook and Mroczka were gifted a 5-1 after first Freddie Lindgren was excluded after a nasty fall and then Adam Roynon fell in the rerun before picking himself up to take a point.
Yet Wolves would not lie down, and they instantly restored their 3 point advantage with a 5-1 from Lindgren and Wells who team rode home from Schlein superbly after Wells pulled off a stunning move to blast around the Aces pair on turn 2.
Wolves threw away some precious points next time out, as Adam Roynon fell whilst on a 5-1 with Robert Miskowiak, although the race was awarded, meaning Wolves stayed ahead.
Heat 13 would turn out to be vital, as Wells and Lindgren again combined for a maximum over Schlein to all but wrap up a Wolves victory, giving them a 7 point lead with only two heats remaining.
Wolves were assured of victory despite a Belle Vue heat advantage in the penultimate race of the night, but it was all still to play for going into heat 15 with it still to be decided if Belle Vue would take a losing bonus point.
It was a much needed victory for Wolves after a disappointing run, and Freddie Lindgren led the way superbly with a 15 point haul. Ricky Wells (12+2) was also superb along with Robert Miskowiak (11+1) who scored four race wins in the middle order. Guesting reserve Adam Roynon (9+2) made a major contribution, and that made up for the fact Ty Proctor (3) and Pontus Aspgren (1) both failed to complete their full compliments of rides after crashing in their 2nd and 3rd rides respectively.
Belle Vue will be slightly disappointed having fought their way back into contention before tailing off and still leaving empty handed. Pole Artur Mroczka (16+1) was superb, especially getting the Aces back into the meeting with an 8-1 on a tactical ride, whilst Craig Cook (8+1) was also superb in the middle order. Ales Dryml (6+2) added some useful points at reserve, but the remaining riders did under-perform. Rory Schlein (6) would really be expected to score more from the number one jacket, whilst Mark Lemon (4+1) and Renat Gafurov (1) were both pretty poor, meaning the Aces fell short of any points.

Panthers Pounce In Closing Stages
The Peterborough Panthers staged a great comeback as they recovered from a sluggish start to take a narrow 47-46 win over the improving Belle Vue Aces.
The struggling Aces – on the back of their first victory of the season at home to Wolves on Monday – got off to a flying start as Ales Dryml and Rory Schlein both got past Grand Prix man Kenneth Bjerre to make the most of a Krzysztof Buczkowski engine and give Belle Vue a 5-1.
Heat 2 then ended level, before Belle Vue doubled their lead to 8 after Pole Artur Mroczka and Mark Lemon struck a shock maximum over talented duo Linus Sundstrom and Michael Jepsen Jensen.
A sensational start for the visiting side was then completed in heat 4, as Renat Gafurov and Dryml took the chequered flag once more to make it 3 maximums out of 4 and extend the Belle Vue lead even further to 12.
However, that enabled the sluggish Peterborough to take a tactical ride, and after nominating Michael Jepsen Jensen for double points, they struck a crushing blow, as Linus Sundstrom joined MJJ at the front for an 8-1.
Buczkowski, making his return for the Panthers after spending 2011 with the side, then instigated another heat advantage for the home side, as he prevailed in a stunning battle with Dryml to just take the win for a 4-2 thanks to Kenneth Bjerre taking third.
Another great win for Artur Mroczka in heat 7 preserved the 3 point Aces advantage, before the two returning Peterborough men Norbert Kosciuch and Buczkowski cutting the gap to 1 with a 4-2 after Kosciuch passed Mroczka for the win and Buczkowski took third.
A heat 9 win for Sundstrom only amounted to a 3-3, but Peterborough were soon ahead for the first time, as they reversed the 1 point deficit in their favour in heat 10 as another Buczkowski win was converted to a 4-2 by Kenneth Bjerre who passed Lemon at the back.
Wins for Olly Allen and Kosciuch for the home side in heats 11 and 13 respectively kept them ahead by 1, before Bjerre stormed to his first race win of the night in heat 13, being joined by Allen to deliver a crushing maximum.
The penultimate race of the night ended level despite a win for guesting Belle Vue reserve Mateusz Szczepaniak, and that wrapped up a narrow win for the home side.
Yet it was still all to play for going into the final race, with it yet to be decided how many points either side would get. Surprisingly, it was the visiting Aces who ended the meeting on a high, as Rory Schlein and the impressive Artur Mroczka were awarded with a 5-1 after Buczkowski hit the fence in pursuit of Schlein. As a result, the meeting ended with a hard-fought 47-46 Peterborough win over the brave Belle Vue Aces who left with a point following a valiant effort.
Peterborough really did put in a very solid home performance, where every rider scored at least paid 5 points to give them a narrow win. Norbert Kosciuch (8+1) returned with a great score from reserve, whilst Linus Sundstrom (8+1) was also superb in the middle order. Olly Allen (7+1) came strong when it mattered late on to score well, whilst Krzysztof Buczkowski (7) also added two valuable wins. Kenneth Bjerre (7) was poor by his usual high standards, but still made a contribution, whilst Michael Jepsen Jensen (6) also took the 6 points in the 8-1 which dragged them back into the meeting.
On the other hand, the Belle Vue Aces were very unlucky to just miss out after a brave performance, with an untimely 8-1 against them really denting their efforts. Pole Artur Mroczka (13+2) performed wonderfully in the number 3 jacket, whilst guesting reserve Mateusz Szczepaniak (10+1) did excellently as well. Number one Rory Schlein (8+2) also did well on his second meeting back from injury for Belle Vue, whilst Ales Dryml (8+2) also performed well. However, too many riders tailed off late on, with Mark Lemon (2) and Renat Gafurov (5) prime examples of that, and in the end they just slipped to a defeat as a consequence of that.
